Bayou Creek Ranch is a family-owned Registered Red Angus Operation headquartered in Jacksboro, TX with ranches in Jacksboro, TX and Lone Grove, OK. Ken Swan and his wife Becky, along with their son-in-law Jeff Lewis and wife Kori, have a passion for great cattle, and are striving to breed exceptional Red Angus.
Ken started working in the oilfield at age 14, and this set the stage for his career. After attending college, he went into business for himself, starting his first oilfield-related company.
As self-made entrepreneurs, Ken and Becky started and grew many companies from the 1980’s, and they still own a wide-range of companies today. Ken grew up with cattle and had always had the desire to own a large ranch, so in 2002 he and Becky purchased the Bayou Creek Ranch property in Lone Grove, OK. It was a short distance from their Jacksboro home and had great soil and water access.
Ken and Becky have been married 35 years, and have two children, Kori and Kasey, as well as five grandchildren. The grandchildren regularly help out at the ranch, and they all enjoy coming together there as a family. Jacksboro is very special to them as it is where Ken was born and raised, and where he and Becky decided to raise their family. They take pride in helping around their community and church, striving to make it a better place to live.
After running a commercial cattle operation, the family was ready for the next challenge. They saw the Red Angus breed as one with a great past, but a wealth of opportunity in the future. When selecting a cowherd from which to acquire genetics, Pieper Red Angus in Hay Springs, NE, was their first choice. The reputation, honesty, and performance of the cattle were just what Bayou Creek Ranch needed.
Jeff Lewis has a B.S. in Agriculture Service and Development from Tarleton State University and a Master of Education from Texas Tech University. He worked as an Agriculture Science teacher before entering the oil business as well. Jeff also has an entrepreneur attitude when it comes to business, as he has also started and managed his own companies. Jeff is extremely excited about the partnership between the two families, and the great cattle Bayou Creek Ranch is continuing to produce.
Currently, Bayou Creek Ranch is gearing up for their first Production Sale, with a projected date for the fall of 2019. When looking to the future of Bayou Creek Ranch, the Swan and Lewis families stated: “We want to improve on the genetics and make them as good as we can. We can always breed a better animal if we strive to do so.”
